About thE Sifter

This is Ooika’s primary Matcha sifter at all of our physical locations for a reason: the Kondoさん Matcha Sifter is unmatched in its ease of use. Often sold out and challenging to source, Ooika is thrilled to make these stainless steel sifters available in the United States.

The sifting tin acts as both a Matcha storage container and a catch for powder that falls through the fine mesh sieve. Inside are three metal “millstones” that break apart and sift through the Matcha powder with just a flick of your wrist. Included is a metal spoon that fits perfectly inside the can to help load the sifting net with Matcha before sifting.

Fear no clump

Contrary to popular belief, clumping Matcha can be a sign of quality rather than a flaw. The smaller the particle of Matcha, the more it will clump due to increased electrostatic charge.

Nowhere is this more true with authentically stone-milled Matcha from Ooika. Lower-quality, cheaply milled Matcha avoids clumping, but at the cost of taste and final texture. Even worse: properly vacuum-sealing Matcha also forces the particles together, creating clumps.

With the Kondoさん Matcha sifter, you’ll fear no clump and save your wrist, forcing the matcha clumps through traditional sifters.

Matcha in a Snap (of the Wrist)

Focus your attention on the Matcha, not the struggle of breaking it apart. The Kondoさん sifter reduces sifting time from minutes to seconds. Put your Matcha in the sieve, and give it a little shake. The millstones inside will pulverize and sift it for you.

Save your Chashaku

Often times Matcha is sifted with a Chashaku through a metal sieve. This process is slow and damaging to your Teaware. By using the Kondoさん sifter, you’ll save your Chashaku from damage so it can last a lifetime.
