Ooika’s Artist-in-Residence Program (oAIR)

Applications for the September 14th to October 11th Artist Residency are open until August 10th.

About the residency

the program

Ooika’s focus is on the craftsmanship of Japanese Matcha. The oAir program is meant to foster the same creativity in the United States.

Over the month, the artist will have access to a stipend of $4,000, access to an Epson p9000 printer, a fully furnished room, and a private artist studio. Discounts on Ooika Cafes.

Exhibition

The oAir residency includes an artist talk, work exhibited on the Ooika website and social media, product packaging, and published in the upcoming annual oAir zine. Artists will have structured access to selection committee.

Work by the Resident will be exhibited in Princeton, New Jersey on October 9th through 11th.

All artists working in photography or image-based media are welcome to apply. Applications are due by August 10th, 2026 at 9PM EST.

Princeton is dense with history, walkable and located near New York city. Ooika’s photo-book library, and relationship with local art associations will allow the resident to connect with the larger Princeton community. oAir a suitable place to further a significant body of work.

The selected Artist-in-Residency will attend three 1on1 calls with the one or more of the selection committee at the start, mid-point, and end of the program to help direct their work.

Richard Ledu

Richard Ledu is Chairman of Pierre Hermé Paris Japon. Since establishing the Maison's presence in Japan, he has grown it into a national institution. Pierre Hermé Paris has long bridged luxury and the arts, partnering with hospitality groups such as the Ritz-Carlton and Park Hyatt; brands including Dior, L'Occitane, Bridor, and Häagen-Dazs; the Eiffel Tower; and visual artists such as Cyril Kongo, Kenya Hara, Nicolas Buffe, Gianpaolo Pagni, and Philippe Baudelocque.

In Japan, Ledu has pursued the intersection of cuisine and contemporary art directly: spearheading "My Sweet Nagasaki," an urban revitalization project using confectionery and edible art to foster local pride and community; engaging the international photography festival KYOTOGRAPHIE and the work of artist K-NARF; and shaping Pierre Hermé's flagship identity through collaborations with interior designer Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall and floral artist Makoto Azuma.

Marshall Scheuttle

American photographer born in Buffalo, New York, Marshall Schuettle received his BA in Fine Arts from SUNY Purchase in 2008 and his MFA from the University of Hartford in 2018. A 2020 NAC Fellow, Scheuttle has been published and exhibited globally, including Aperture Gallery, The Albright Knox Museum and C/O Berlin. His first two books have been published by Kris Graves Projects (NYC) and collections include The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Photography.

Schuettle’s editiorial work includes Bloomberg Businessweek, The Guardian, The New York Times, National Geographic, Disney and more. His work can be find in collections such as Amon Carter Museum of Art, Bard College, Cleveland Museum of Art, Duke University, Harvard University, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Photography and more.

Kris Graves

Kris Graves (b. 1982 New York, NY) is an artist and publisher based in New York and California. Graves creates artwork that deals with societal problems and aims to use art as a means to inform people about cultural issues. KGP MONOLITH (est. 2009) was founded by Kris Graves and is a Black-owned publishing house. KGP MONOLITH is committed to cultivating a new cohort of art collectors and supporters, and to this end, editions are priced to ensure that they remain accessible and affordable.
